What Is An EHCP?

An Education, Health, and Care (EHC) plan is a legal document that outlines the special educational needs of a child or young person up to the age of 25, the support they require, and the goals they aim to achieve.

The special educational support outlined in an EHC plan must be provided by the local authority of the child or young person. This means the plan can offer additional educational assistance and give parents and young people more flexibility in choosing the school or setting that best suits their needs.

An EHC plan can only be created after the child or young person has undergone an Education, Health, and Care needs assessment (EHC NA).
