How do I appeal a Refusal to Assess decision?
Only parents, not schools, can appeal the local authority’s decision of refusing to assess their child’s special educational needs. Parents must contact one of the 3 mediation companies to ‘consider’ whether to attend mediation or go straight to appeal.

Find out moreWhat Support Is Available For Early Years Children (0-5 Years)?
A delay in learning and development in the early years may or may not indicate that
a child has SEN, that is, that they have a learning difficulty or disability that calls for
special educational provision. Equally, difficult or withdrawn behaviour does not
necessarily mean that a child has SEN. However, where there are concerns, there
should be an assessment to determine whether there are any causal factors such as
an underlying learning or communication difficulty.
What Is SEN Support In School/College?
SEND support includes any help for children and young people with SEN that is additional to or different from the support generally made for other children of the same age.
